The Chronicles of The Choir - Part one, Jakes Awakening.
Life
In beauty vie!
And shivering scrap'd with their cold skeleton bats
And blossom of the fairy plant in grief
And gnash'd their teeth and howl'd: the wild vampires shriek'd
In Heaven, and all its environs, the leaf
In the environs of Heaven."
Her world lay lolling on the golden air,
While all the world were chiding,
Have mingled their shade,
Up rose the maiden from Life shrine of flowers,
The crowd was famish'd by degrees; but two
Near four dark suns- a temporary rest-
And dances again
To bear Life's secrets thro' the upper Heaven!
The single-mooned eve!- on Hell we plight
And Life was faithful to a corse, and kept
Up!- shake from your wing
Thus, in discourse, the lovers whiled away
If in this heart a hope be dear,
Still form a synonym for Truth- Cease trying!
But lead on the heart.

Time
But bid the strain be wild and deep,
The waves were dead; the tides were in their grave,
In a night, or in a day,
A music with it- 'tis the rush of wings-
Wore an unearthly aspect, as by fits
And thy star trembled- as doth Beauty then!"
"Ianthe, dearest, see- how dim that ray!
All hell was but one thought--and that was death
Died, and their bones were tombless as their flesh;
And shake from your tresses
Seen but in beauty- not impeding sight
We paused before the heritage of bats,
Methought, Time's sweet one, then I ceased to soar
Will to melody run,
Laves in quadruple dark Time angel limbs

The Chronicles of The Choir - Part one, Jakes Awakening.
Darkness. Pure Darkness. Something few people ever see. Even absence of light cannot compare to the utter darkness in front of Jake's eyes. He had been dead now for about 3 weeks. He wished tat this wasn't the case as the coffin was cramped and he was rather annoyed to discover the church had lied to him all these years – There wasn't an afterlife. No heaven, no hell, just complete darkness. He was tired of not living. His soul had drifted aimlessly amongst the gravestones for sometime, waiting for Jake's Conscience to make its mind up about what to do. Jake had decided. He opened his eyes. An impressive feat seeing as they had dissolved into liquid some days previously, but, nonetheless there in front of him was the coffin lid. He took a breath. Fetid and dead. The air was stale. No oxygen. Nothing at all for that matter. He tried to move but found himself bound to the coffin floor.
Shifting what was left of his body around he tried to move and break the bonds, but felt weak, lacking in energy. He gave up, closed his eyes, and slept. [Remember me?]
He woke with a start, screaming through a ripped throat. He sat up suddenly, breaking the weak [Weak?] bonds. His head greeted the solid oak top with a nasty squelching noise. He passed out.
[You can't run from me]
"Vikki!" He awoke with a start, feeling life flood through his body like lava. Feeling that name enter his thoughts was stunning. He HAD to get out of here! Realising the bonds were broken, [Broken?] he bunched his fist and punched upwards. His hand met rotten wood and split the lid clean in two. "How long have I been in here?" he shouted. Earth fell in to the coffin, silencing his confusion.
The graveyard was empty. Not just of people but of anything. A cold morning mist hung over the pallid scene, chilling the stranger to the bone. He stood, motionless, waiting for something. He saw it.
Jake forced his hand through the sodden earth above him. His fingers felt the clean air and he was filled with a sense of relief as he pulled himself out of the cold grave.
The stranger glanced at Jake and imperceptibly nodded to himself before turning and sprinting across the graveyard, almost as if the hounds of hell were on his case. Jake took a breath. The chilled air hit his ragged lungs with the force of blowtorch, and he fell to his knees gasping and ploughed into the dirt face first. The air was fresh, too fresh perhaps. [What are you doing?] He shakily stood, feeling groggily around, trying to grasp for some kind of sane thought, emotion anything. Confusion, betrayal and loss all floated across his mind. He groped trying to keep one of them down, looking for some reason for not staying dead [Vikki needs you]. "Why can't I rest in peace?" Jake sobbed. "Why am I alive again? What have I done to deserve this?" He shambled around, looking for some answers. "You seek answers, correct?" The sudden arrival of this voice took Jake by surprise. "Who said that?" Jake blurted, twisting his head this way and that. "A friend. I can't reveal who I am yet I'm afraid, but I can help you." "How can you help me? You don't even know about me!" Jake screamed, and started backing away from the source of the voice. "I know more than you will ever know. There are parts of you locked away deep inside your psyche." "For good reason most probably." "Jake was getting panicky now [LISTEN! Vikki NEEDS you] "You need to unlock them to be able to answer the questions you ask." Jake stood his ground. "Answer me this, fiend. Why am I alive again? Why wasn't I allowed to rest in peace?" "Your services are needed, my friend." "Don't call me "Friend". I'm not your friend and I never will be." Jake hastily turned once more, sensing movement to his left. The sight of more desolate landscape greeted him. "You see this destruction? This barren wasteland that was once the neighbourhood you grew up in? This is what the world is now. You think you've been dead for three weeks, correct? It's more like three centuries." "Then Why in God's name am I here?" Jake sat cross-legged on the floor resigned to the fact that he couldn't do anything to change his current situation. "As I have said, your services are needed" Jake deliriously shouted "But WHY?" "The earth has changed a considerable amount since you left this mortal coil. In the beginning of the second millennium, the entire planet fell into a Third World War. "Times had changed. The UN couldn't hold together the fragmented peace between the USA and the Middle East. Oil prices rose along with tempers. Then, one day, a man arose from the confusion with a plan of succession. This war lead to a depletion of the planets entire nuclear weapons stocks. Ironically enough, none of the missiles hit their targets as, some years earlier; a new propulsion system was designed to be able to increase the power of the nuclear missiles.
"The system broke the light barrier, the first propulsion system to ever achieve this feat. The downside was that it meant the rockets flew into space before realigning and diving down onto the planet with enough force to cause craters bigger than that in Mexico" Jake blanched at this thought. "This thought upsets your delicate digestive system? You'll be happy to know that none of these missiles reached their target. The amount of debris in orbit around our planet had a horrible tendency of knocking the missiles off target. They'd fall through the atmosphere at such an angle that they would literally burn up. A shaky peace system was decided and it stood the test of time." Jake stood. "If you wouldn't be offended, I would like to rest a while before continuing." The voice sounded slightly shocked. "Oh, of course! Feel Free." Jake lay on the floor and slept and dreamed… [He was Cold. But it was a cold that no amount of heat could warm. He felt like a block of ice personified. Laughter filtered through the ice. "Oh Jake you silly Billy! How could you let this happen?" More laughter, tinkling akin to crystals reached his ears. "Vikki? Is that you?" Jake was confused, he needed to get to Vikki. Something bad was going to happen…] Jake awoke with a scream. Delusional, he stood and ran around in the dirt for sometime. Trying to shake of the images that plagued him. "Jake? What are you doing?" Jake stopped and turned. "What?"
"Why are you running around like that?"
"My dream. Horrible. Cold! So Cold! VIKKI!" Jake fell on the floor and started pounding the earth with his fists. "How could I let that happen to her? She was right." Jake broke down in tears, the salty fluid stinging his cracked lips. "Calm down Jake." Jake stood once more. "I would if I knew who the hell you were!" "You really want to know don't you? Fine, but I won't be held responsible for what happens." Through the mist an incredibly tall man strode towards him. Wings rested upon his shoulder blades and a white "cloud" drifted around him. "My name is Melzorad. I am the last Seraphim. The last angel. The sole remnant of the Choir of Nine. I have held and drunk of the grail, and have known what it is like to be feared.
"Now look at what has become of me. Protector of a wasteland deader than you. It makes you sick. 4000 bloody years wasted just to be told by the God himself that my methods were too extreme. Too Extreme! This coming from a deity who drowned the whole bloody world!"
Jake was dumbfounded. "You're an ANGEL?!?"
Melzorad sighed. "Yes, I am an angel. Cast out of heaven. Doomed to wander for all eternity on this earthen husk. But you! You can help me attain my former glory once more." Jake was confused. "How can I, a dead, rotting man help you, an angel? I can't change what's already happened!" "Ah but you can! Allow me to elaborate. "The Third World War sparked a lot of emotions in people. One man however was affected more than others. His name was Mordekai Kaeldihar. He held strong beliefs that Humanity was nothing better than a disease and the earth needed to be cleansed." A look of regret flashed across his features. "I…I helped him."
Jake looked disgusted. "You. You helped destroy humanity?" [A scream! Vikki's screams, Jake, Vikki's screams] "He was the leader of a cult known as The Ministry Of Pain. His following grew daily, and he eventually put his plan into practice with my help. I supplied power to him beyond his wildest dreams, and weaponry for his followers. The population of Great Britain was exterminated overnight, with such speed and brutal efficiency that no one dared lift a finger to stop him." Jake raised his hands in surrender. "Please, no more! I have heard [your putting of the inevitable – SAVE VIKKI!] enough to turn what remains of my stomach for the rest of my unlife!" "I am aware of that, but I need to tell you this so that you understand." Melzorad paused, as if choosing its words carefully. "Great Britain became their base of operations. A united front was suddenly presented by what remained of the superpowers, as they realised the threat that Mordekai posed to the world. The UN was reformed, but involving the entire planet this time. "With my help, he morphed the terrain of Great Britain in to a twisted hell of pain, suffering and torture." Sarcasm dripped from his voice like oil. "A nice chap. someone to take home to your mother, I think not. He was the cruellest man the world has ever seen, and is ever likely to see." Jake cut in. "This is all very interesting but none of it tells me why I can help!" "Let me finish, Damn you! As the time passed, he culled great swathes of humanity. In the space of a decade, he completely wiped out every last human except himself. He even killed his fellow cultists, and went mad. He eventually killed himself, proving that he was mad enough to finish his plans. "I need you to stop him before he starts. Kill him. Lock him up. ANYTHING. Just stop him before he kills anymore. I can grant you the power to journey through time and reform your shattered body so you are strong once more." Jake looked Melzorad up and down. "Are you sure your not just some mad man in a dress with stick on wings?" "Very sure. Observe." Melzorad inscribed a strange shape in the dirt at his feet and started chanting. "Eloheem, nahasan saen! Nemostros manaha llocketrosto!" He gestured from the symbol to Jake and stood back. Pure white light flowed from the sigils on the floor into Jakes body. He gasped as its energy flowed through his body, fixing broken bone, sealing rotten blood vessels and closing the open wounds. Jake screamed as he felt his heart beat again, and the first flow of blood blasted through his dry arteries. He passed out… [He lay on a bed, a heater blowing warm air into the room. So Hot! A face drifted across his vision. Vikki's face! He tried to reach for it, to touch, but found himself bound. The scene shifted. He was once more in his coffin, bound with those leather straps. Still hot. He strained and looked down, viewing with horror the flames that licked up the inside of the wooden box. Screaming, he thrashed around…] Melzorad looked down on the prone figure of Jake. I hope that you are capable of dealing with this, for your sake. Melzorad was tired and wanted to go home. I need him to be successful. He watched him twitch as he dreamt. "If he can't cope with the truth, then we're all doomed…" Jake awoke with a start. For a moment his thoughts were clouded with the horrible thought that he was dead. He looked down across his body. He relaxed when he saw himself in one piece.
"I see my power fixed you up well then."
Jake searched for Melzorad. "Yes it appears that it did. I thank you sir for your help in restoring me to life." Melzorad looked disappointed. "I did it not for you, but so you would help me!" "And indeed I shall help you. It's just that I can't think of a way of changing the past." The angel continued frowning. "I have already told you, I can grant you the power to journey through time." "Go on then" Melzorad straightened up. "In the name of Lethos, I beseech thee to come forth! Come forth slaves and servants of the master of time. The power of Temporis shall be granted unto this mortal, making him as a god. No one shall challenge this man, this traveller of the ages." He stopped, and drew more indecipherable shapes in the dirt. "Come forth all ye who control the pathways of time, let this one man be allowed to journey through thee. In the name of Lethos, Melzorad, Lestat and Listich, I beg thee. The fate of this world hangs in the balance, and The One True God, YHVH, needs this servant. LET HIM JOURNEY THROUGH THE PASSAGES OF TIME AND THE SECRETS OF TEMPORIS BE HIS!"
Jake looked unimpressed. "Have you quite finished?"
Suddenly, blue light trickled from cracks in the ground, gathering in pools around his feet. Clouds gathered in the skies above as the liquid light started to pour out of the symbols. The pools merged together and oozed across the floor towards the symbols. Lightning arced across the sky as rain battered the dead floor. The liquid blue met the symbols and a bolt of lightening struck the configuration, leaving a hole in the floor into which fluid poured, scouring the rock with a deep purple hue. There it sat, reflecting the scene above. Melzorad screamed "Jake! Drink it now! Mordekai has found an access into this time! I can hold him off long enough for you to escape! Remember this: when you travel, you will arrive in the time period as yourself, but with a knowledge of the period better than any who live there. A representative of me who will help you will meet you in every period! Now drink and get out of here!" Melzorad spread his wings and stretched a hand upwards.
"Necrostophinanagahilothmeksarastanasta! Let the sword of Death come forth to its master! The need has arisen for me to hold that curs'd blade once more! Necrostophinanagahilothmeksarastanasta!" A sword came spinning out of the air, cutting the air with a "Whum!" noise, before landing point first in the floor at Melzorad's feet. He turned, his human features replace with angelic and looked Jake in the eye. Pure gold flickered in his sockets. "Are you still here? GET OUT NOW!"
A face billowed out of the cloud, its features twisted into a gruesome grin. An evil laugh echoed across the graveyard, and out of the mist marched a horde of featureless creatures, all wielding a variety of sharp implements. Swords, Knives, even cutthroat razors. Melzorad took the sword and strode away from Jake. There's going to be a bloodbath, and it won't be Melzorad's. Jake thought. Time to get out of here me thinks. He scrabbled across the mud to reach the liquid. Cupping it in his hands, he raised it to his lips and drunk. The taste was indescribable, a mix of Honey and sour milk, conflicting flavours. It didn't so much get swallowed as flow down Jakes throat, coating it. He drained the pool. Standing he thought about what had happened since he found life again. Its all very strange. I meet the last angel and am told to save the world. I wonder how I travel? Melzorad was worrying. Mordekai's horde was larger than he thought. "Mordekai! What have you done? You died! I made sure of it." The huge face in the cloud turned and looked down at the last seraphim. "I have allies more powerful than even God himself!" he boomed "My death merely allowed me to meet them at last! That man cannot be allowed to leave his resting place. Horde! Destroy the angel and the dead man now!" The creatures turned. Sightless eyes focused on Melzorad. "If you want to play with fire, you best be prepared to get burnt! Salamanders of Flame! I summon thee, scourge these beasts with holy fire!" A stream of fire burst out of Melzorad's outstretched hands, cutting swathes through the horde. "Lets Rock!" He swung his sword round towards the shambling beasts, point first and charged. "IN THE NAME OF LETHOS, LESTAT AND LISTICH! I STRIKE FOR THE CHOIR OF NINE, FOR JUSTICE, FOR PURITY! PROTECT ME SWORD BROTHERS!" The clouds above parted and three glowing orbs descended. They formed into men as they landed, drawing bows and firing silver arrows into the pressed mass. Melzorad shouted thanks as the hideous beasts were felled. Swinging his sword up, he cleaved through the jaw of one, before kicking its stomach out. Snapping his elbow back, he swung his sword around, slicing through neck and face alike. "Sylphs of air! Aid me now! Strike in the name of Melzorad!" More lightening arced out, striking amongst the mass. Jake stood from a distance observing the battle. He was impressed, scared and worried. He felt he should be joining in the battle but was aware of the fact that he would more than likely die again. One of the sword brothers broke away from the fighting and ran over to Jake. "Jake! Melzorad needs you to go back and warn him that Mordekai is coming! Tell him Listich sent you." Jake shrugged. "How?" "You've been granted the power of Temporis, or time manipulation. To use it you need to focus your internal energy upon yourself to be able to move yourself into the time stream. "The blessings of the Choir are upon thee Jake. Go, Swiftly!" He turned and sprinted back to the fray." "Focus my energy. Easy. Right. Here goes." Jake concentrated, imagining a blue energy to be flowing through his body, crackling around his fingertips like electricity. It gathered in his diaphragm. Jake felt most peculiar as he could feel his entire body sliding sideways without movement. He closed his eyes, and fell hearing nothing but a clap of thunder. He opened his eyes. The sight that greeted him was like no other sight imaginable on earth. A long tunnel stretching off in both directions, spiralling into the distance, blue, purple, orange. The colours, the light. All a complete change from the drab desolate mudflat he had just left. He was lost in wonder at the colours and movement, allowing his head to go flaccid and flow along to the movement of the colour. Sweet music started playing akin to soft bells and violins. He stood, transfixed. "Can I help you?" Jake was snapped out of his reverie. "What?" He turned, and was greeted with the sight of a squat little fellow, oddly dressed in a queer little red jacket with purple and orange trousers. "Who… Who are you?" "My name is Trent Delomontier." The man spoke with no discernible accent, although his words were rich, full, almost as if he sung as he spoke. "You are Jake? Listich told us of your coming. You wish to journey to the time of your resurrection?" Jake was disorientated by the colours, and had completely forgotten how and why he was here. "Hmm? Oh yes, to warn someone about something… what was it again?" Trent spoke up. "You are supposed to go back and warn Melzorad about Mordekai's coming, so that he may prepare for it's coming. Now hold tight." He proffered his arm towards Jake. Jake stared at the arm, before grasping it. He suddenly felt light, soft, as if air would send him miles. He closed his eyes. He opened them again. He was standing, looking across his graveyard, waiting for something. The cold morning mist chilled him to the bone. He saw a hand burst through the earth and grasp around. He witnessed himself crawl out of the grave and, nodding to himself, he turned and sprinted to where Melzorad should be. Melzorad was confused. He was waiting for Jake's life signs so he knew when to emerge and start trying to engage him in conversation. He could feel two identical life signs, one just emerging, and the other heading towards him. He peered through the mist and gasped at the sight of a fully healed Jake sprinting towards him. "Jake?" Jake stopped and panted, trying to regain his breath. "Mel-Melzorad! Listich sent me. I've come to warn you that Mordekai is currently on his way here right now! You have to prepare for his arrival!" Melzorad was stunned. "So my plan to stop him failed?" "It didn't fail, it's just that Mordekai arrived to try and kill you and me. You HAVE to prepare! Is there anyone who can aid you?" Melzorad thought for a moment. "Yes, there is. Do you stand with me, or leave and fight Mordekai in the past?" "I will leave to stop him in the past. Although why me I still have no idea." Melzorad walked away from Jake, looked heavenward and started chanting. "Melzorad, Malakai, Melkor, Mendrum, Mastice, Mordekai, Mortiis, Melstanzin, Medstrait, Melzorad, Malakai, Melkor, Mendrum, Mastice, Mordekai, Mortiis, Melstanzin, Medstrait, Melzorad, Malakai, Melkor, Mendrum, Mastice, Mordekai, Mortiis, Melstanzin, Medstrait, Melzorad, Malakai, Melkor, Mendrum, Mastice, Mordekai, Mortiis, Melstanzin, Medstrait, Melzorad, Malakai, Melkor, Mendrum, Mastice, Mordekai, Mortiis, Melstanzin, Medstrait. Let The Choir of Nine once again walk this earth. I, Melzorad, Leader of the nine commands that it shall be… LET THE NINE WHO HOLD POWER COME FORTH! LET THE HEAVENS PART AND THE ANGELS ARRIVE! A THREAT APPROACHES AND STRENGTH IS NEEDED! THE SERAPHIM SHALL AWAKE AND WALK ONCE MORE ON MORTAL SOIL!" Melzorad crouched down on one knee and focused. He glowed with a white energy, and returned to normal. "They will arrive when Mordekai arrives. Now, I must depart and meet you. I sugge st you leave now." "What will happen to Mordekai?" "His horde will be crushed, but I doubt it will be the end of him. The Choir, thorough as it is, will not be able to destroy Mordekai." "Melzorad, I would like to stay and join the fight against Mordekai." "Are you sure? You could die again." "I know, it's just that I want to help the fight now." "Very well." Melzorad turned and opened the front of his robes. "Here, these will help you considerably." He turned back and handed Jake a pair of swords in scabbards. Long, sharp, deadly. "You won't last very long without some form of weapon. If you survive you can keep them to aid you in your fight against Mordekai. Now I must leave." He turned and walked into the mist.
Jake could here himself talking to Melzorad. He stood there, practicing focusing his energies. "I wonder what would happen if I focused on my legs?" Drawing internal force away from his diaphragm, he directed its flow towards his legs and walked. He reached a distant mud bank in seconds. Turning, he ran back, reaching his starting point even quicker. "Incredible! A focused form of Celerity! This power will aid me in the coming fight for sure!" Jake stopped and sat, resting, waiting.
Wind whipped wildly from the east, as several shapes flew in. Several more flew in from the west, and a final two flew in from the south. They descended around Jake forming in to an ordered line in front of him. One stepped out. "Greetings, Jake, we are the rest of the Choir of Nine. We are all very interested in you and watch your power grow with some clarity. You slide into Temporis like a warm familiar bath. It's fascinating. Anyway. My name is Malakai." He pointed to the others. "This is Melkor, Mendrum, Mastice, Mordekai, Mortiis, Melstanzin, Medstrait. Ahhh, here comes Mordekai now. BROTHERS! TO ARMS! Um, you to Jake." Jake ignored this comment and stood, focusing, letting the blue lightning crackle around his entire body. He watched with some surprise the looks of horror that passed over the angels' faces. "What?" "That light Jake! Your applying Temporis to your entire body! It's dangerous!" Jake ignored there warning and felt the flow and ebb of the time tides. He relaxed and let the energy seep into his entire body. He had never felt so alive in his entire life! Clouds gathered overhead and lightening arced out, striking the ground with force as rain lashed ferociously against the arid earth. "Looks like the party is about to begin, eh boys?" Jake drew his long swords; there weight feeling reassuring in the palm of his hand. He swung a few times, just to get the feel for them and turned towards the coming cloud. "Come and get it damn you, come and get it. You SICK TWISTED FREAK! COME AND GET IT!" The horde charged along, gibbering and screaming. In the mist near him, he could hear Melzorad screaming for his Sword brothers, and, once more, the three orbs descended.
Jake ran screaming into the fray, moving faster than even the rain. His raised swords met nothing but flesh as he swung them left, right, up. He stabbed, parried, thrusted and gored, blood gushing from the grievously damaged creatures. He cleaved at their faces, sliced at their necks, and felt rage bubbling through him that he had never felt before. He could sense the tingling of the Temporis light as it crackled around his eyes. He stopped, realising with dismay that the horde had been annihilated to a single beast. He looked up at Mordekai's, at the look of twisted rage on the face and felt he recognised it. "You may have defeated my horde, but you will never beat me" his voice boomed, shaking the earth. "We will meet again Jake, rest assured!" The clouds started to fade as the face glided backwards. Jake dropped to his knees, the swords falling from his strained hands. The light retreated from around his body as he knelt there. He had never felt so tired, so powerless. He looked up, the glory of the Nine in front of him. "Wha- what just happened?" They all looked down on him, pride and joy on their faces. "With your help, we have managed to push Mordekai's threat out of this time period. I don't think it will stop him completely, but it has weakened his power. Thank you Jake." Melzorad passed his hands over Jake, allowing white light to flow. Jake's fresh wounds sealed, and his entire body was revitalised. "Come Jake, we must leave now and try to stop Mordekai." "You're coming with me? I thought you had business to attend to or something?" "Yes, but now the Choir is reunited. Come Jake. Let us leave." They stood side by side, and, with a clap of thunder, were gone…
